Pick a topic and start answering. Get it right, and the questions get a little harder. Get stuck, and Algy backs off and explains things until it clicks. There’s no way to “fail” a question — you just keep playing at the level that’s right for you.
Every correct answer earns XP. As your XP adds up, you rank up — from your first rank all the way to the top one, ten ranks in total. Each theme has its own set of rank names, so ranking up in the dinosaur theme feels different to ranking up in the space theme.
Play any day and your streak goes up by one. Every 400 XP you earn banks a freeze credit (up to 6) — miss a day and a credit quietly covers it, so the streak survives. Freeze-covered days show up in a different colour on your streak calendar, so you can always see which days were “real” and which were covered. Run out of credits and miss a day? You get until the end of that day to earn enough XP to make up the gap before the streak resets.
Every theme you unlock earns you a badge with its name on it, in its own colours — so your badge row is a running record of everything you’ve earned. A couple are special: “First Steps” for answering your very first question, and “Theme Master” for reaching rank 7, which is the big one — see below.
The simple version: the more questions you answer, the more XP you earn — play to unlock more themes along the way. Playing is genuinely the only way to get there; nothing about it is timed or bought.
You start on plain Algy, and the moment you answer your first-ever question — right or wrong, answering it is the achievement — you get a second theme, picked for you as a surprise. After that, ranking up lets you pick a new one yourself — new colours, a new mascot, a new set of rank names — from whatever’s still locked. Some themes are there from the start; others are rarer and only open up once you’re well into your ranks. Pick a favourite and pin it, or let Algy pick a different one for you each day.
Every now and then a special theme shows up too — something made just for one person, or unlocked for a limited time. Those don’t come from ranking up; they come from a code, if you’ve got one.
Reach rank 7 and you earn the “Theme Master” badge — which unlocks the ability to request a theme that doesn’t exist in Algy yet, made just for you: whatever you’re into. Keep playing after that and you’ll earn the chance to request another one every so often, for as long as you keep going — it doesn’t stop once you hit the top rank.

Algy is free to try — every kid gets 400 XP of practice before anything’s asked of you. After that, the family subscribes to keep going: one flat monthly price if you’ve got one or two kids playing, a slightly higher one for three or more. No metering, no per-child add-ons — just the price for that band, worked out from how many kid profiles you have. Add a third kid profile later and your subscription moves onto the right price automatically, from your next bill. You can manage or change your plan any time from the kid picker screen once you’re signed up.
Once you’re subscribed, look for “Refer a friend” on the kid picker screen — it gives you a one-time code to share with anyone. If they subscribe using it, they get a free month, and so do you, automatically, no action needed on your end.
